You undoubtedly adhere to the idea that history must be learned, otherwise it will be repeated endlessly… Yes, but in concrete terms, what are you doing to maintain this forgotten knowledge? The mere fear of not repeating the mistakes of the past may not be enough to motivate you…

Whether you like it or not, you are part of a chain of transmission. Your birth is part of a cycle that will continue long after your death. The memory of your ancestors has been transmitted orally for hundreds of thousands of years. A large part of this treasure is lost. Why? Because a link was missing: perhaps a generation was swept away by an epidemic, or a natural disaster decimated the whole tribe, or what? It only took one link to break a chain of transmission that goes back thousands of years…
Today, the oral traditions have almost all disappeared, and with them their myths and legends have been forgotten for eternity. You may think, but now there are books? And I’d say you’re absolutely right. They tell thousands of life stories just waiting to be read. Are you still reading history books? Well done, if so! Alas, many of us no longer have the time or inclination to read…

What strikes you when you open a history book is the harshness of the lives of the people in it. You will tell me that it is normal, history books focus on war and the significant events that are most often negative (epidemics, conquests, etc.). It’s true, I agree with you. But still! I find that it helps us to realize how lucky we are to live in our time even if everything is not rosy every day.
The advantage of reading is that you can witness the most tragic scenes of the story while lying in bed. This experience helps us to feel the thrill of fear while putting it into perspective with our present life. The conclusion is that we can be happy with our present condition even if it seems difficult at first sight.
History is often the mirror image of the present. In other cases, it offers us the keys to open the boxes of secrets without which we could not understand contemporary life. Reading history allows you to penetrate the enigmas that seem to us to be unsolvable. So where do you begin your exploration? What keys are you missing?
