You don’t have to go to the top of a mountain to enjoy peace and serenity. To find peace, we must first mute the noise in our minds.
It will not have escaped your attention that technology is the main cause of distraction in our lives. It brings us comfort but it does not come without a trade-off, noise and even chaos can be direct consequences of these innovations.
The ambition that we can cultivate can be one of the reasons that prevent us from finding peace. Always looking for something to pursue, we inexorably move away from the present moment which is where peace and satisfaction reside.
Peace is achieved by eliminating the unnecessary. If you want to clean a sheet, you remove the dirt and leave only the sheet itself. Peace comes in the same way, it is already present in you, you just have to get rid of the things that prevent you from finding it. To find peace is to maintain an essentialist view of what surrounds us, that is to say to know how to distinguish and be satisfied with the essential.
To fight the thoughts of hatred or violence that you cultivate within yourself, you must be proactive. Since nature abhors a vacuum, you can’t just chase away the hatred and noise in your mind, you must make a conscious choice to think and act with love. Only by doing this will you be able to vibrate at a higher level and become the best version of yourself. Do not try to return evil for evil, but rather try to make an effort on yourself to overcome the urge to return the negativity you receive. Focus on loving thoughts, they will improve your relationship with others. Of course, this is not something that happens overnight. Nevertheless, there is a cumulative benefit of the love you invest, in the long run, you will be able to reap the rewards of such an attitude that you have nurtured every day. By choosing the path of love, you can chart a significantly different course than if you had allowed yourself to be overrun by hate.
If it is difficult to live in the present moment, it is because we have lost the benefits of contemplation and our ability to observe what is around us. The present moment is rich enough for the trained person. The present moment can be the source of deep joy, but one must know how to capture what is happening in it.
By wanting to please others too much, we lose sight of our own qualities. Rather than wondering what others think of you, it’s better to ask yourself, “Do I like myself?” “Do I enjoy spending time with myself?” If you answer yes to both of these questions, you don’t have to be ashamed of who you are, the looks of others don’t matter that much. Remember that you are the only one who spends 100% of the time with yourself. It is much better to act in a way that increases your self-esteem rather than trying to please others at all costs. Many actions that are considered remarkable or spectacular in appearance are really just a sign of self-destruction or self-loathing. Don’t do anything that would lower your love for yourself.
It is normal to have expectations for certain things. The problem arises when you have expectations that are out of step with reality. It is much more reasonable to abandon these unrealistic expectations that contaminate our ability to enjoy the present moment. Of course, it is sometimes difficult to identify what an unrealistic expectation is. To do so, we must be discerning and it is precisely by increasing our capacity to live in the present moment that we can develop this quality.
We often forget the benefits we enjoy. Because there is a psychological adjustment mechanism, we do not really manage to be happy with our situation: we end up finding it normal. This attitude leads us to always want what we don’t have and finally neglect what we do have. This is what is commonly known as great ambition or the disease of the never satisfied. Being grateful is simply recognizing and appreciating what we have so that we never lose it and can be happy here and now.
